Loved the way you ended that. This made me think about how, when creating anything, you have to sacrifice that ideal that exists in your head for some imperfect representation. And when you’re a kid that trade off means nothing to you bec you understand innately that what’s important is just the fact that you’re doing ’it’ — doesn’t matter if it’s with a shitty pen or on the back of some junk mail. Then, maybe when you’re older the imperfections of life can overwhelm that impulse and that can be bleak. But finding your way back through some kind of imperfect totem is a great reminder of where the value lies—that is, in the process, in the message, imperfectly done with imperfect tools.

Exactlyyy, finding our way back is so pertinent. Ultimately, it’s about the journey not the destination (🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼) - I’m grateful for the journey this far, and what is to come🥲

Before the ‘emotional support water bottle’ or ‘emotional support stack of unread books’ we had our emotional support stationary items. Thank you for so lovingly giving a voice to the magic of returning to ourselves.

I created this app for the sole purpose of “I love Syd’s” content so why not see what she does on here. I’m not disappointed in the least. I can’t wait to read more you put out, and when your novel or any book you write does come out, I will be so ready to read it. Thank you for doing such a tough but necessary job. And thank you for still finding ways to spread positivity through your YouTube and Instagram. It’s such a uniting feeling to realize that a lot of us at some point lost our whimsy, and struggled to wake up in the morning. Here we are now, trying to hold onto that whimsy as much as we can, find the love & happiness in life we deserve. Thank you🩷

I am tentative with all social media, but coincidentally I downloaded the substack app recently, and when I saw you wrote your first post (I follow you on YT and IG), I opened it immediately, expecting to read the first paragraph and then come back to it later. Well, I read the whole thing, and find myself feeling very very aligned with your feelings. I'm only a little older than you (31 in Feb) and not quite nailed down the financial stability, but I'm a writer, and I have been struggling to write. It's very easy for me to avoid doing things I want to do, because practicality just gets in the way, almost every time. I am very slowly coaxing that issue apart, but I wanted to just say that I know what it's like to push out energy into the world, encourage people around you to do what they love, and hope that some of that will do some Fake-it-til-you-make-it magic. I have done that and then forgotten the feeding MYSELF passions part. I'm glad you are doing it. I'm here to say thank you for highlighting the value of creating art as a focus of life. As a way to resist. As something worth doing when the world around us feels so so dark and sad. Thank you. I hope this long-winded (lol sorry) comment can pour some of that encouragement and light back towards you. Love is a renewable resource, and the love of literature and creation can be so easily shared and distributed. Thank you for the words 🌟☁️🌟

it’s hard to write and create when things are so heavy, i 100% hear you on this. i also know, as i’m sure you do too, that in these times are when art is needed most. i feel the encouragement from your comment and i can only hope you also reserve some for yourself<3

There is something about these pens, I swear. Mine is those cheap BIC pens that the grip never stays put on 😂 happy writing!

They choose you!!! Much like the cat distribution system or something of the like🤭

We all had our wings when we were small and life has a way of making them slowly fade away. There comes a time when we realize, as adults, that we need and want our wings back, that we need and want that whimsy, that imperfect perfection, and I think that’s what this pen may be to you? I think the pen will find you when you need it, like you said. The pen IS magical. And so is this Substack. :) Great first post! “Despite despite despite.”
